Serve Cambodia – overseas service-learning trip

  • To expand the world view of every participant through the cultural immersion and interaction with Cambodian youths
  • To develop a heart of compassion and servanthood in every participant
  • To give every participant an opportunity to lead and initiate through the pre-trip planning and team bonding sessions
  • To empower mentors with servant leadership and coaching skills so as to be able to lead and relate to the younger participants

Family Care Foundation (FCF) provides humanitarian services in developing nations, makes grants, and provides training for grassroots organizations in the Third World, participating in a wide variety of community based initiatives. It was incorporated in 1997 with the mission to enhance the quality of life for all members of the global community, especially those who are poor, suffering, or are otherwise disadvantaged.
The purpose of FCF is to:

  • Act as an incubator for effective philanthropic ideas and entrepreneurial leadership.
  • Provide both humanitarian services as well as training and technical assistance.
  • Make giving internationally easier and more effective, eliminating many of the challenges encountered by those wishing to help deserving causes abroad

FCF aids beneficiaries mainly in these areas:

  • Orphans and street kids
  • AIDS
  • Medical relief
  • Computer literacy
  • Physically challenged
  • Drug awareness
  • Emergency relief
  • Education
  • Food programmes

Kolap 4 Orphanage, a beneficiary under the FCCP (Family Care Cornerstone Project)

Background: A government orphanage situated in Phnom Penh, Obekhom area, behind Heng Ly market on street 271. It houses 85 children between the ages of 5 and 22 years old. Most range between 10 to 18 years old.

Some are orphans; others are from very poor and needy families. Most of the orphans come from the island; with either both parents deceased or the family is too poor to support them.

The older ones who are doing well in their studies or just started working are allowed to stay at the orphanage until they have enough money to live on their own. It has  2 dormitories, one for the boys and the other for the girls.

The orphanage needs assistance with facilities refurbishment, food, toiletries, clothing, stationery, medical & dental check-ups, and sponsorships for their studies in both Khmer and English languages, and monthly pocket money.

Project Scope

  • Refurbishment of orphanage facilities – dormitories
  • Re-painting and painting of murals
  • Cleaning
  • Enrichment and language classes
  • Basic hygiene and first-aid education
  • Recreational infrastructure (e.g. basketball court)
